The Afreximbank Group, comprising the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), the Fund for Export Development in Africa (FEDA), the Pan African Payments and Settlement System (PAPSS), and Afrexinsure, is dedicated to advancing trade across Africa. Afreximbank, a major continental financial institution, focuses on promoting intra- and inter-African commerce, with a shareholder base that includes African governments, private African and foreign investors, and other institutional stakeholders.
Afreximbank operates from its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, and has regional offices in Harare, Zimbabwe; Abuja, Nigeria; Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Kampala, Uganda; Yaoundé, Cameroon; and Bridgetown, Barbados. FEDA is based in Kigali, Rwanda; PAPSS and Afrexinsure are both headquartered in Cairo, with the latter incorporated in Mauritius.

As part of its mission, the Afreximbank Group seeks to deepen knowledge around African trade and structured trade finance. Through its internship program, students gain hands-on experience with the Bank’s operations, model, and goals, offering a platform for young professionals to explore trade finance and contribute fresh perspectives to the Group’s mission.
Internship Eligibility
Eligible applicants must:
- Be nationals of Afreximbank’s member countries (listed on the Bank’s website), African diaspora students, or non-African students with a vested interest in Africa’s development.
- Be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate program at an accredited institution, ideally studying fields such as economics, finance, business, law, engineering, or the social sciences.
- Be a straight speaker in the English or French tongue, with a hands down wisdom of the other language. Additional proficiency in Arabic or Portuguese is advantageous.
- Be between 20 and 32 years old during the application year.
Additional Note: Children of Afreximbank employees are ineligible for this program. Exceptions to eligibility criteria may be considered by the Bank’s President.

Internship Benefits
Interns are eligible for:
- Coverage of travel expenses to the internship location at the start of the program, based on the most affordable and direct route from their place of study.
- A monthly tax-free stipend of USD 800, along with a housing allowance of USD 400 (for those relocating from their home country) to assist with living expenses.
- Accommodation at a bank-selected hotel (bed and breakfast) during the first week of the induction.
- Transport to and from the hotel upon arrival and at the program’s end.
- Visa assistance, if necessary, for the internship duration.
