Are you driving innovation in emerging technologies, advancing STEM education, or fostering international collaboration? This opportunity is for you. The 2025 UNESCO Al Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in STEM is now open for applications.
The UNESCO-Al Fozan Worldwide Prize for the Promotion of Younger Scientists in STEM goals are to liven up analysis, training, and world cooperation to deal with challenges aligned with the Sustainable Growth Objectives (SDGs). It recognizes younger innovators whose work drives world socio-economic progress, whereas encouraging curiosity in science, notably amongst girls and women, to foster gender equality and promote scientific careers.
The five final recipients will be selected from the five geographic regions of UNESCO (Africa, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America and Latin America and the Caribbean).
The prize include a $50,000, a medal, and a diploma for each winner.
The UNESCO-Al Fozan Worldwide Prize aligns with UNESCO’s vision on Gender Equality, aiming to encourage extra girls to pursue STEM careers.
Eligibility Criteria for the 2025 UNESCO Al Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists
- Candidates must be below 40 years as at the time of the application deadline
- Candidates must have gained recognition in at least one of these areas:
a. International or regional cooperation in STEM
b. research in STEM, including emerging technologies
c. STEM education, dissemination of research findings, creativity and innovation.
3. Nominations of younger girls scientists are strongly encouraged to promote gender stability in STEM fields.
Application procedure
To apply, candidates are to :
- Open an account here and create a user profile
- Proceed to complete the application form by providing detailed information on contributions and achievement in line with the eligibility criteria
- Upload all supporting documents including:
- An abstract of your work, publications, and different important contributions
- An outline of your background and achievements
- An outline detailing your contribution to the targets of the Prize
- Complete all applications in English or French
- All applications must be completed before the deadline of April 15, 2025.
Nomination Process
The following entities can submit nominations:
- Universities: for example Head of a Department, Dean or a University management professional. Please observe that particular person school members and workers cannot nominate candidates.
- Governments of Member states in consultation with their National Commissions.
- Non-governmental organizations that partners with UNESCO officially and are active in relevant fields covered by the award prize.
- UNESCO Chairs.
- Category 2 Centres.
- Worldwide scientific unions.
All nominations must be done in English or French.

There is no room for self nomination
The nominating entity can register on-line as a nominator and submit the
nomination instantly or provide the candidate with a nomination letter to upload directly with their application before submission.
Requirements for the nomination letter
The nomination letters must adhere to the following:
- Embody official stamps or seals to confirm the endorsement.
- Be signed by a licensed consultant of the entity.
- Embody the title, e-mail deal with, and phone number of the nominator.
- Should be written on the official letterhead of the nominating entity.
Procedure for nominating a candidate:
- Only authorized representatives of the nominating entities are to send in the nominations. They should visit the application website, create a nominator account and provide all relevant information.
- Once the account is verified, it will be activated for onward submission of nominations.
- To nominate a candidate by email:
- Provide the details of the candidate such as names (first and last), and email address in the field provided,
- Provide the required recommendation information such as: candidates background and achievements, work, publications and other significant contributions and a statement brief that outlines the candidates contributions in line with the objectives of the prize
